Similar to what /u/CompetitiveRuin suggested you could alternatively offset your large monitor to the side and use your MacBook Pro opened as the primary display and input (using stand mentioned above) and that keeps your Touch Bar right there. A weird suggestion to you since you just bought a nice large monitor. Yes the screen is smaller but it is a better screen, the keyboard feels better, the speakers are amazing, the Touch Bar is right there and there is something very zen feeling about the minimal setup. The other thing I noticed when I'm at my girlfriends house and don't have my full office setup is that I actually prefer my 16" MacBook with Touch Bar on a stand. edit: just looked and this is a lot more expensive than a stream deck. Even for office, web browsing and non creative work. It is a lot more natural, ergonomic (no more wrist pain!), and accurate. I know that this is a weird proposal if you are not a creative but I find the pen to be a superior input device. You can also build powerful on screen menus. These are hard keys that can be programmed for anything (specific to each application), a scroll wheel for multiple functions, and two buttons on the pen itself. I don't have a comparable solution but at my home office with my MacBook in external clamshell mode I rely a lot more on my Wacom tablet with express keys. I always wished apple would've released a magic keyboard with Touch Bar. I love my Touch Bar as well (with the addition of BTT as well). ![]() Something like a StreamDeck, but preferably cheaper and with a definite chance of working! So, tldr: I'm looking for an external (physical, no apps!) touchbar solution for my desktop MacBook Pro that can sit above my keyboard. I only want it for basic system-level tasks like repositioning windows, locking my screen, etc. Since that's become a bigger part of how I use my computer, and because I'll inevitably have to upgrade to a new non-touchbar Mac one day, it made me wonder: is there a way of basically making an external touchbar to sit above my external keyboard?Ī StreamDeck feels like the obvious solution but a) they're very expensive and b) I don't actually know if it would work for what I currently use the touchbar for. I have a 2020 MacBook Pro with a touchbar, and I'm one of approximately twelve people on the planet who actually loves it (thanks BetterTouchTool)! I recently upgraded my desk setup to include a larger monitor, and I've noticed that I keep reaching for my touchbar shortcuts.
